Free Home Security Lock Check for Waterford Homeowners This September

Through September 2026, we’re offering homeowners across Waterford a free lock check. No charge, no obligation, and no sales pitch at the end of it — just a straight assessment of what you currently have on your doors and whether it stands up.

We’re doing it because of a pattern we see on almost every call-out. People assume their locks are fine because the door closes and the key turns. Meanwhile the cylinder on the front door protrudes 8mm past the handle plate and could be snapped in under a minute by someone who watched a video about it.

What the check covers

It takes about 15 minutes for a typical house and covers five things.

Cylinder vulnerability. We measure how far each euro cylinder protrudes past the handle plate. Anything more than a couple of millimetres is a snapping target, regardless of what else the door has going for it.

Standards and ratings. We check whether your locks carry recognised markings — TS 007 star ratings, Sold Secure, BS 3621, IS EN 1303 — and tell you what that means in plain English rather than reading you a number.

Mechanism condition. Stiff handles, doors that need a shove, mechanisms that grind. These are failures waiting to happen, and the fix is far cheaper before the failure than after.

The doors people forget. Back doors, side doors, patio and sliding doors, garage doors. Security follows the weakest point, and the weakest point is very rarely the front door people have already upgraded.

Insurance alignment. If you have your policy wording to hand, we’ll tell you whether what’s on your doors matches what it asks for. If you don’t, we’ll tell you what to look for in it.

It’s open to homeowners across our normal coverage: Waterford City including Ardkeen, Tramore, Ferrybank, Dunmore East, Kilmeaden, Passage East, Faithlegg, Portlaw, Kilmacthomas, Fenor, Annestown, Bunmahon, Stradbally, Kill and Rathgormack. Landlords are welcome to book for a property they own, and tenants should check with their landlord first since any work would be the owner’s decision.

What “no obligation” means here

It means what it says. We look, we tell you what we found, we leave you a written note of it, and that’s the end of our involvement unless you decide otherwise.

If something needs doing, we’ll give you a price so you know the scale of it. You are entirely free to get two other quotes, do it yourself, or decide the risk doesn’t bother you. Plenty of the checks we’ve already done ended with “your locks are grand, leave them alone”, which is a perfectly good outcome and the reason the check is worth having.

What we won’t do is manufacture urgency. There’s no “special price if you book today”, no talk of a crime wave, and no scare stories. If your door is fine, we’ll say so and go.

A note on the checks themselves

A lock check is a visual and functional assessment, not a guarantee against burglary. No lock makes a house impregnable. What good locks do is make your house a slower, noisier and less attractive target than the alternatives.

What people usually find out

Four findings come up again and again:

1. A protruding cylinder on a UPVC or composite front door. The most common single issue in Irish housing, and the cheapest to fix.
2. A back door that’s years behind the front door. People upgrade the door they look at, not the one facing the garden where nobody can see an intruder working.
3. A patio or sliding door with a worn bolt. Often the easiest entry point in the house and almost never on anyone’s radar.
4. Keys in unknown circulation. Previous owners, past tenants, tradespeople. Usually solved by a re-key rather than new hardware.

None of those are dramatic. All of them are worth knowing about.

Why we’re running it now

September is when people come back from holidays, evenings start drawing in, and houses go from open-all-summer to locked-up-by-six. It’s the natural moment to look at doors, and it’s before the winter weather starts seizing the locks that were already borderline.

It’s also, frankly, a good way to introduce ourselves. We’d rather people met us at a free 15-minute check in daylight than at midnight when they’re locked out and stressed.
