What an auto locksmith call-out involves

Common problems we solve

Keys locked inside

The most common call by a distance. Central locking makes it easy to shut a door with the keys inside, particularly on cars that lock automatically when they detect movement. We open the vehicle, you retrieve the keys, and there’s nothing further to do.

Lost the only key

This is the one that worries people, and the cost depends entirely on the vehicle. For many everyday cars we can cut a replacement blade and decode it on site. For others, the electronics need manufacturer equipment. We’ll tell you which category your car falls into before you commit to anything - have the make, model, year and, if you can find it, the VIN ready when you ring.

Key snapped in the lock or ignition

Forcing a broken fragment deeper is the one thing guaranteed to make it worse. Leave it, keep the other half, and call. We extract the piece with proper extraction tools and can usually cut a fresh key from the fragments or the lock’s code.

The fob has died

Sometimes it’s just a battery. Sometimes it’s the fob electronics or a fault in the car. If the blade should open the door but doesn’t, the lock barrel itself may be worn or seized, which is standard locksmith work.

What it costs, and how we quote
