This policy explains how Emergency Locksmith Waterford ("we", "us", "our") collects and handles personal data. We are the data controller for the information described here. We are based in Waterford City, Co. Waterford, Ireland and can be reached on 051 575 008 or at info@emergencylocksmithwaterford.com.

We process personal data in line with the General Data Protection Regulation (EU) 2016/679 (GDPR) and the Irish Data Protection Act 2018.

1. What information we collect

We collect only what we need to quote for and carry out locksmith work:

  • Contact details — your name, phone number, email address and the address or location where the work is needed. Collected when you call us, submit the quote form, or email us.
  • Job details — what has happened, the type of door, lock or vehicle, access notes, and any photographs you choose to send us.
  • Identity and entitlement checks — before opening a property or vehicle, we visually confirm photo identification and evidence linking you to the address or vehicle (for example a utility bill, tenancy agreement or vehicle documents). This is a security safeguard for occupants and owners. We record only that the check was completed and the type of document seen. We do not retain copies or scans of your identity documents.
  • Payment information — card payments are processed by our payment provider's terminal. We do not store full card numbers.
  • Records of work — a description of the work carried out, parts fitted, date, price and guarantee details. Where you need documentation for an insurance claim, this is what we provide.
  • Website usage data — standard technical information (IP address, browser type, pages viewed) generated when you visit this website.

2. Why we process it, and our legal basis

  • To respond to enquiries and provide quotes — legal basis: steps taken at your request prior to entering a contract.
  • To carry out the work you have booked — legal basis: performance of a contract.
  • To verify entitlement before opening a property or vehicle — legal basis: our legitimate interest, and the legitimate interests of occupants and owners, in preventing unauthorised entry.
  • To keep records of work, guarantees and payments — legal basis: legal obligation (tax and accounting records) and legitimate interest (honouring our 12-month labour guarantee and dealing with any dispute).
  • To send you service-related messages — legal basis: performance of a contract. We do not send marketing email unless you have asked us to.

3. Who we share it with

We do not sell your personal data, and we do not pass it to marketing companies. We share it only where necessary with:

  • our lead-capture and website service providers, who process form submissions on our behalf under a data processing agreement;
  • our payment provider, for card transactions;
  • our accountant, for tax and bookkeeping purposes;
  • your insurer or An Garda Síochána, but only where you ask us to (for example, to supply a certificate of work after a break-in), or where we are legally required to do so.

Where a provider processes data outside the European Economic Area, we rely on the European Commission's standard contractual clauses or an adequacy decision.

4. How long we keep it

  • Enquiries that do not become jobs — up to 12 months, then deleted.
  • Completed job records — 6 years, to satisfy Irish tax and accounting requirements and to support guarantee claims.
  • Identity check records — a note that the check was carried out is kept with the job record. No copies of documents are retained.

5. Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right to:

  • access the personal data we hold about you;
  • have inaccurate data corrected;
  • have data erased where we no longer have a lawful reason to keep it;
  • restrict or object to processing carried out on legitimate-interest grounds;
  • receive your data in a portable format;
  • withdraw consent at any time, where processing is based on consent.

6. Security

We apply appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect personal data, including access controls on the devices and accounts used to run the business, encrypted transmission of website form data, and a policy of collecting the minimum information needed to do the job.

7. Cookies and website analytics

This website uses only the cookies needed to make it function, plus any analytics or tag management we have enabled to understand how the site is used. Analytics cookies are set only where permitted. You can block or delete cookies through your browser settings, though some parts of the site may not behave as intended if you do.

8. Children

Our services are aimed at adults. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 16. If you believe a child has given us their data, contact us and we will delete it.

We may update this policy as our services or legal obligations change. The date at the top of the page shows when it was last revised.
